Avocados Make Me Anxious by Professional Mom

What’s your poison? What’s your kryptonite? What gives you anxiety? I just realized that mine is avocados. I love them, I eat them, they are delicious and wonderful, however, this does not mean that they as a fruit, or vegetable, are without remiss.*

My fellow moms hear me when I say, I love avocados. A friend told me a few weeks ago that she and her husband split one a day to help their cholesterol, now if that’s not motivation to eat them, I don’t know what is.  I bought some last week, determined to eat one, or part of one every day. Thankfully they turned out to be good and I ate them all within their “fresh” time.

Which brings me to my angst, truly, God had a sense of humor when He created this divine fruit. I can remember making guacamole one time with four of the most perfectly ripe avocados and it was awesome to behold and eat. I also remember getting avocados, which are not cheap, by the way, and having them either be hard as a brick (I know about the dark place) or so brown inside it makes you cry. And if they sit on my counter for several days and go bad, that’s unforgivable!

You can have your tips and quips pertaining to my dilemma, but I have made a commitment that if I do buy them, I will test their “ripeness” regularly to confirm their readiness to consume and trust God to help me calm my anxiety. Because, really, for an avocado to make me anxious is pretty silly, but there are some legitimate concerns that crop up from day to day, things with our spouse, our children, finances, illness, that can cause extreme worry and anxiety.

My “go-to” is the Bible, Philippians 4: 6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.” (KJV)

So, avocados are not the enemy and I will continue to eat them and enjoy them, and as for all of my anxieties, I will trust in God!
